Today, 13 October, a group of young adults conducted a protest action in Huseyn Djavid Park near the Elmler Akademiyasi metro against the price increase in fares in the Baku Metro Underground.
Chanting slogans like “Resignation for Tagi,” and “Prices must be lowered,” protesters tried to march towards the Elmler Akademiyasi metro station. At that time police interfered, and took more than ten participants by force to the Yasamal District Police Stations #26 and #27.
According to the decision of the Tariff Council of Azerbaijan Republic, on 1 October the fare in the Baku Metro Underground was raised by three times – to 15 gepiks. Youth conducted a protest action against the price increase on October 5.
The detained young adults were fined and were given a warning in the Yasamal District Court before they were released at 7:30 p.m.
