Yesterday, 25 May, Ayanda Mursaliyeva and his brothers-in-law Sakit Zahidov and Farasat Zahid visited imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid in Prison #17. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Ayanda Mursaliyeva.
Mursaliyeva said her husband’s health is normal and he does not have any complaints about prison conditions. Zahid was happy to be visited by Press Council members several days ago, according to Mursaliyeva. They will appeal to court regarding early release of Ganimat Zahid.
“Lawyer Alayif Hasanov said that one third of Ganimat’s prison term ended; therefore he will appeal to court for his early release,” added Mursaliyeva. “However, Ganimat does not believe that the court will issue a fair decision.”
Ganimat Zahid was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years.
