GROUP OF AZERBAIJANIS LIVING IN U.S. CONDUCT ACTION IN FRONT OF UN

At the initiative of “Azerbaijanis in America for Democracy – AZAD” organization, a group of Azerbaijanis living in America conducted an action in New-York city. According to “Mediaforum” news site, the action began on 9 January, at 2:00 p.m. New-York time, in front of Headquarters of the United Nations and went on for two hours.

The aim of the action was to bring to the attention of the world community the problem of the project to make changes to the Constitution for which a referendum is scheduled to take place on 18 March.

During the action, where about 20 people participated, slogans like “Go away Monarchy!”, “Live Long Republic!”, “No to Monarchy!” and “Freedom to Press!” have been sounded.

At the end of the action a resolution has been read. AZAD’s co-founder Elmar Shahtakhtinsi told “Radio Liberty” that in the near future the decision will be introduced to the representatives of UN member states. According to Shahtakhtinsi, holding future actions will depend on political proceedings in Azerbaijan.
