IMPENDING LAWSUIT MENTIONED IN “IFLAS” FILM FILED AGAINST “AZADLIG” NEWSPAPER

Azadlig Harakatchilari Birliyi (Union of Freedom Movement) has filed a lawsuit against "Azadlig" Newspaper.

The chairman of the union Tahmasib Novruzov reported this to the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety. "In our lawsuit we express our objection to the current staff of 'Azadlig' Newspaper, because myself and other Azerbaijan Popular Front Party members founded this newspaper. But none of the founders is represented in the present structure of the newspaper. In our lawsuit we ask the court to adopt a decision to take the publication that was founded by Azerbaijan's Popular away from the current staff and return it to the founders of Azerbaijan Popular Front, to fire the present staff of the newspaper, and to institute a 150,000 AZN fine against the newspaper. The money from this fine will be used to fund the creation a special corner dedicated to the newspaper in 'Istigal' Museum," he said.
Novruzov said the lawsuit will be considered in the Yasamal District Court by Judge Elchin Gurbanov and preliminary court hearing on this case will be conducted on 5 June.
Recall that on 8 April of this year Azadlig Harakatchilari Birliyi (Union of Freedom Movement) conducted a press conference, and accused "Azadlig" Newspaper and the newspaper's journalist Agil Khalil in damaging the image of the newspaper. In addition, in the film "Iflas," which was broadcast by "Lider TV" this year on 22 and 29 April Tahmasib Novrusov said that such a lawsuit would be filed and the closure of the newspaper would be sought.
