Yesterday the Institute for Peace and Democracy made a statement to defend OSCE Special Representative on Press Freedom Miklos Haraszti.
It is stated in the statement, “The consideration of Azerbaijan’s Executive Government for Haraszti proved once more to international community how far the government representatives of our republic are from the concept of the purposes and duties of international organizations of which Azerbaijan is the member. Haraszti, while carrying out, his professional duties called on Azerbaijan Government to stop criminal acts against speech freedom, mass media and journalists. Millions of citizens of our republic support this call.”
The reaction of government representatives is evaluated in the statement as a contrary step to President Ilham Aliyev’s statements about loyalty to Euro-integration and international legal norms.
