INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM INITIATIVE LAUNCHED

Today, the Azerbaijan Media Center launched a new project on investigative journalism

Media Center Projects Coordinator Seymur Kazmov introduced the initiative, which is being financed by the U.S. Embassy Small Grants Program. The Azerbaijan Media Center will carry out the project together with Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety and “Yeni Nesil” Journalists Union. The project will run for 10 months, and the participating journalists will be able to choose their own topics, which must be of immediate interest and concern.
$700 will be allocated to every journalist involved in the project- $400 for the investigation, and $300 as a fee upon completion.
5 places will be allocated to print media journalists, 3 places to online TV and 2 places to bloggers.
Naila Aliyeva of Yeni Nesil (New Generation) Journalists Union said that trainings will be held in the framework of the project. The main purpose of the project is to improve investigative journalism.
Press Secretary of US Embassy Keith Bean declared that this project will play an important role in developing independent journalism in Azerbaijan, and in the creation of free journalism and democracy.
