On 10 March the case materials on the beating of “Azadlig” newspaper journalist Agil Khalil were sent to Baku’s Head Police Department by Binegedi Police Department #7.
Khalil told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the documents were sent back to the Binegedi Police Department on the same day. Khalil was told this by Head Police Department Investigator Arzu Babayev. The investigator stated that the documents were sent to Baku’s Head Police Department for the staff there to familiarize themselves with the case materials, and to keep this case as a focal point for them.
“I have been unable to get any reply from them, although I have been trying to contact them since the case materials were sent to the department,” Khalil went on to say. “That is why I contacted the investigator of the Police Department #7 Elnur Aliyev a couple of times. However he told me that this case already has no connection with them. Now, Elnur Aliyev doesn’t even answer my calls.”
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety tried to contact E. Aliyev in the second half of the day about this matter, but was unable to reach him.
