IRFS seeks permission from Baku Executive Power for a peaceful protest in front of Iranian Embassy

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety has applied to Baku Executive Power to obtain permission for a peaceful protest in front of the Iranian Embassy, scheduled for August 6 at 12:00pm. ‘

‘The trial of Azerbaijani poets Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade arrested in Iran will be held on August 7th and we intend to hold a peaceful protest against their arrest one day before the trial’, says IRFS chairman Emin Huseynov.
According to Huseynov through this protest, IRFS intends to draw the attention of local and international community to this trial. ‘We expect at least 50 journalists and human rights activists to take part in the action” said Huseynov.

On April 28th Azerbaijani poets Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade were invited to a poetry festival held in Tehran. They were arrested on May 2nd by several plain clothes persons on their way back to Azerbaijan, after attending the festival. The Iranian side alleges that the poets entered Iran illegally, though there is not any visa requirements for Azerbaijanis to enter Iran.
