The telephone in the personal apartment of Elman Abbasov, Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) regional correspondent in Nakhchivan, has stopped working since 12 April.
E.Abbasov told IRFS that the telephone line was cut at an unidentified spot while Nakhchivan “Design LTD” company did repair work in the building where he lives. He appealed to Nakhchivan city ATS several times but the problem was not solved.
“I told them that I use internet regularly and often receive phone calls from regions,” said E.Abbasov. “Several times the employees of the Nakhchivan city Post Office came to check the telephone line. However, they left without doing anything. The telephone has not been working for four days.”
Abbasov added that independent journalists in Nakhchivan have had certain problems with their telephones recently. The calls to reporters from the regions are being prevented and it is impossible to have contact with the regions after 6.00 p.m.
