"The Assistance Fund for Freedom of Speech and Journalists' Defense,” which operates with financial support from the Baku Office of the Open Society Institute, considered new applications and allocated 1000 AZN in total aid to journalists and their families.
According to a press release from the fund, "Azadlig" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ganimat Zahid (according to his wife Ayanda Mursaliyeva's appeal) and "Gundalik Azerbaijan" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Eynulla Fatullayev (according to his father Emin Fatullayev's appeal) received 300 AZN in aid. In addition, "Prognoz" Newspaper (according to the editorial office's appeal) received 200 AZN to be hire a lawyer to defend a journalist involved in a lawsuit. "Realniy Azerbaijan" Newspaper Editor Uzeyir Jafarov was give n200 AZN for medical treatment.
"Yeni Nesil" Journalist Union, Azerbaijan Journalist Union, Najaf Najafov fund and "League of Democratic Journalists" are the founders of the fund.
