On Wednesday, April 15, in Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Jamal Ramazanov, an appellate hearing was conducted on Yasamal District Court’s verdict about the lawsuit of Sabayil District Gas Department employees Eyyub Sattarov and Mubariz Sultanov against independent journalist Malak Valizadeh.
M. Valizadeh told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that Judge J. Ramazanov annulled the first instance court’s verdict and sent the case back to the Sabayil District Court to be reconsidered.
In February 2009, in the Sabayil District Court, Judge Famil Nasibov considered the lawsuit of Sabayil District Gas Department employees Eyyub Sattarov and Mubariz Sultanov against independent journalist Malak Valizadeh on the basis of Article 296 of the Administration Code (cursing with minor hooliganism). On 19 February 2009, Nasibov issued a decision in which he found Valizadeh guilty and fined her 50,000 AZN.
This lawsuit stems from the article “Gazovaya ataka v god Bika,” which was published in Zerkalo Newspaper. The article was about illegal acts committed by the Sabayil District Gas Department.
