JOURNALISTS PREVENTED FROM ATTENDING OPEN COURT HEARING

Today, journalists were prevented from attending an open court hearing at the Military Court on Grave Crimes. Without giving any justification, Judge Islam Nemanov ordered bailiffs to remove the journalists the courtroom, Bizim Yol newspaper employee Haji Zeynalov told IRFS.

According to Zeynalov, Azadlig employee Ayten Mammadova, Yeni Musavat employee Elchan Balakjanli (Mammadov), APA news agency employee Shahriyar Alizade and Zeynalov himself were not allowed to attend the criminal trial for the murder of Deputy Defense Minister, Air Forces and Air Defense Commander general-lieutenant Rail Rzayev, who was shot dead in Baku on February 11th, 2009.
“We said that we were journalists and presented our press identification cards. Then without giving any reasons, they forced us to leave the courtroom,” said Zeynalov.
The journalists had also been prevented from attending the October 29th hearing.
