JOURNALISTS SUBJECTED TO PRESSURE IN NAKHCHIVAN

IRFS correspondents in Nakhchivan Elman Abbasov, Hekimeldostu Mehdiyev, and journalist Ilgar Nasibova were preparing a reportage in the Nehrem village of Babek region on 22 April, when they were subjected to pressure by Nehram village executive officer Tevekkul Alakberov. They interfered in their professional work, IRFS correspondent in Nakhchivan Elman Abbasov reported to IRFS.

The correspondent said that they were visiting the village due to the complaint filed by  Nehram village resident, farmer Zeynalabdin Bagirzade. Based on their interview with him, they visited the Nehram Village Administrative Area Office to seek the other side’s opinion. “Municipality and Executive offices are located in the same building. We could not find Municipality head in his office. When we wanted to enter the room of Executive Representative, Tevekkul Alakberov, he and several police employees came at us aggressively in an aggresive manner. He required us to leave the building. According to him, we should have sought permission from the district management to enter the village. We cited the law to explain to him that we don't need to get permission to enter the village. He demanded that we switch off our voice recorder, and leave building”, Abbasov said. Elman Abbasov also noted that there were police employees in area. However they did not interfere in our work.
