JOURNALISTS TO HOLD PROTEST MEETING BEFORE YASAMAL DISTRICT COURT

Discussions on the lawsuit filed by Transport Minister son, businessman Anar Mammadov against Yeni Müsavat and Azadlıq newspapers were held today in Yeni Müsavat's editorial office.

The attendees included Panah Huseyn, who will represent Yeni Müsavat in the court proceedings, Dalga Youth Movement Head Ramin Hajili and the Movement members, as well as a number of journalists.
At the end of the event, it was decided to hold a protest meeting before the Yasamal District Court ahead of the hearing on December 10, Musavat.com reports.
The lawsuit will be heard at 11.30 am, December 10 in the Yasamal District Court.
BACKGROUND
Mammadov appealed to the court citing humiliation of his honor and dignity and damage to his business image in the article titled “Kamaladdin Heydarov’s eats bear” (published in Azadlig on 1 July, 2010 and in Yeni Musavat on 2 July, 2010), and in the article titled “Sheikh drives Anar Mammadov out of Dubai” (published in Yeni Musavat on 14 September, 2010). Mammadov demands 250,000 AZN from each newspaper in compensation.
The first article said that in one of the rest stops in the Gabala region, Anar Mammadov saw a bear and ordered it to be prepared as a meal. In the reported incident he vowed to pay 1 million AZN for the meal. The second articles said that Anar Mammadov and his friends were dismissed from Dubai for violating social misconduct.
Both daily newspapers have been in operation since 1989.
