Judge Withdraws from Arrested Believers’ Case

On 10 January, Baku Grave Crimes Court chaired by Judge Eldar Ismayilov commenced the trial of Nardaran resident Natig Karimov and former deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Islamic Party Ingilab Ahadov.

Presiding judge Eldar Ismayilov requested to withdraw from the case due to a probability of conflict of interest. He noted that while familiarising himself with the case, he found out that the State Security Service conducted its investigation. “My son Emil Ismayilzade is a member of the investigation team in this case. In such circumstances, the law does not allow the case to be considered under my chairmanship,” the judge said.

The request was granted by the judges Javid Huseynov and Alisultan Osmanov.
