Yesterday, 22 January, "Yeni Musavat" Newspaper column writer Zamin Haji's lawyer Fariz Namazli has appealed to Ilyas Seyidov, the investigator of the Binagadi District Prosecutor's Office. It is demanded in the appeal that another criminal case be instituted against Karabakh Liberation Organization Chairman A. Nagi under Article 221 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism). Namazli demanded that the other tpeople who attacked Zamin Haji also be involved in the investigation.
Fariz Namazli told this to the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety. “Today I wanted to see investigator Ilyas Seyidov about this issue,” said Namazli. "However, the investigator said he was at a meeting and thus the meeting did not happen.”
On 12 December 2008, KLO Chairman A. Nagi along with several people attacked "Yeni Musavat" editorial office, insulted newspapers employee Z. Haji and used physical pressure against him. The preliminary investigation in connection with the issue was carried out in the Binagadi District Police Department #5. At present the case is under consideration of the investigator of the Binagadi District Prosecutor's office Ilyas Seyidov.
A criminal case has been opened against A. Nagi under article 163.1 (interference in legal work of journalist) of the Criminal Code.
