MAHAL ISMAYILOGLU DOESN’T GO TO POLICE DEPARTMENT DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS

Journalist Mahal Ismayiloglu, against whom a criminal complaint has been filed, couldn’t go to Absheron District Police Department today (30 June) due to his health.

M. Ismayiloglu told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “My blood pressure is high today, and that is why I can’t go to the police department. I am not feeling well.”

Ismayiloglu stated that the complaint filed against him is under the direct consideration of the Minister of Interior.
“According to a reliable information source, Minister of Interior Ramil Usubov has ordered the conduction of an investigation in the place of the incident,” the journalist said.

M. Ismayiloglu was called to Absheron District Police Department on 27 June. In the department he was notified that his neighbor Vahid Imanov, who works in the Ministry of Interior, filed a complaint about him. In the complaint it is alleged that the journalist beat his neighbor's servant for dumping trash in his yard. M. Ismayiloglu claims that this complaint stems directly from articles he has recently published in “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper.

Mahal Ismayiloglu worked at the editor-in-chief of "Khalg Gazeti" newspaper, one of the official newspapers of the Presidential Executive Administration, for years. He was dismissed in 2002, and has been writing articles criticizing government in the independent and opposition newspapers.
