Then Hajiyev’s mother Solida Movliyeva and youth activist’s brother Vugar Hajiyev condemned the black smear campaign against Hajiyev on governmental mass media as well. Besides, Hajiyev’s relatives expressed gratitude to the free media and journalists, intellectuals and rights defender. The family added that they will go to the court for the false information advocated by the said TV channel about Hajiyev.
A criminal case against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was launched in late January, 2011. At that time, he signed a statement of commitment not to leave Ganja city. In end-February his pre-trial detention was replaced with release under police control.
On March 4, 2011, Hajiyev was sentenced to one month’s pre-trial detention. It is widely thought that Hajiyev was arrested for his activity on social networking sites and his support of the March 11 Great People’s Day campaign.
Hajiyev was sentenced to 2 years in jail on May 18 by Nizami District Court of Ganja.
