The Media Rights Institute (MRI) has sued the State Commission on Radio Frequencies, the Communication and Information Technology Ministry’s State Radio Frequency Office and National TV and Radio Council for not providing information which should be made known to the community. If the Sabail District Court fulfills the lawsuit, these organs will have to reveal information related to frequency resources of Azerbaijan to the community.
In the beginning of October, the employees of the Media Rights Institute requested the State Commission on Radio Frequencies and the Communication and Information Technology Ministry’s State Radio Frequency Office to provide a copy of the National Table on the distribution of radio frequencies, and a copy of the list of frequencies allocated for TV and radio-broadcasting.
The National TV and Radio Council was asked to provide the list of frequencies allocated for TV and radio broadcasting which are available for use or free, the copy of the documents reflecting the methodology used during the monitoring of TV and radio channels in Azerbaijan, and a copy of internal normative acts considering and regulating monitoring.
The CITM State Radio Frequencies Office did not answer the information inquiry. The State Commission on Radio frequencies and the National TV and Radio Council refused to give any information.
MRI asked the Sabail District court to adopt a decision to consider the failure of these organs to respond to information inquiries and to issue a verdict to oversee that these organs have to respond to information inquiries.
