Murad Adilov’s lawyer reveals new facts about the case

Lawyer Yalchin Imanov has discovered interesting facts regarding the case of APFP activist Murad Adilov, according to a post on his Facebook page:

 

“I have obtained another piece of information about Agakishiyev Elchin Atakhan oglu, who was a circumstantial witness in the politically-motivated criminal case against political prisoner Murad Adilov. According to the Interior Ministry Head Operation and Statistical Information Department’s letter of response to my inquiry, this person was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail by Ali-Bayramli (Shirvan) City Court under article 234.2 of the Criminal Code on May 4 2007. On February 5 2010, he was granted conditional early release by the decision of Salyan Regional Court.

Article 234.2 of the Criminal Code concerns the illegal purchase or storage with a view of selling, manufacturing, processing, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances and stipulates a punishment of imprisonment for 3 to 7 years.

 

Murad Adilov also is charged with drug trafficking on a large scale. Agakishiyev has been registered as a drug addict at the Republican Narcology Dispensary. The Main Drug Enforcement Department of the Interior Ministry, the agency led by General Hazi Aslanov, has used such this person, a drug addict convicted on drug charges, as a pawn in to convict an innocent person.”

 

Background: Murad Adilov was arrested on 11 August 2014, in the Sabirabad district. He is the brother of Natig Adilov, a reporter for Azadliq newspaper and spokesman for the APFP leader. He was convicted under article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code on 14 May 2015 and sentenced to six years in jail.
