Bizim Yol newspaper correspondent Mushfig Huseynov’s health has become more serious again. M.Huseynov’s relative Javidan Huseynov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that Mushfig Huseynov called from the Penitentiary Service’s Specialized Treatment Facility for Tuberculosis Patients yesterday, 20 December. Mushfig told his family that although the doctors were able to manage the blood coming out of his mouth for three days, he is having the same problem again.
“His coughs became stronger again and blood comes out of his lung when he coughs,” said J.Huseynov. “He suffers from poor appetite and weakness. Mushfig is very concerned that two months treatment has no positive effects on his health. Mushfig said that his temperature is high most of time.”
On 14 October, M.Huseynov, who suffers from late-stage tuberculosis, was transferred from prison #2 to the Penitentiary Services Specialized Treatment Facility for Tuberculosis Prisoners because his health deteriorated seriously.
Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code in July, 2007 and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by the Appellate Court.
