MUSHFIQ HUSEYNOV’S HEALTH REMAINS POOR

Yesterday, 18 October, imprisoned “Bizim yol” newspaper employee Mushfig Huseynov, who is being held in prison #2, was visited by his relative Javidan Huseynov.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Javidan Huseynov.

According to Javidan Huseynov, although Mushfig Huseynov doesn’t have any complaints about prison conditions and the attitude towards him, he is seriously concerned about his health.

“Mushfig said that he was diagnosed with "pulmonary infiltrative tuberculosis of lung in the destruction phase." Although he has been receiving treatment for two days already, there is no progress, and his health remains poor,” said Javidan Huseynov. “Mushfig has a cough, his temperature is between 38 and 40 degrees, and he is very weak and doesn’t have an appetite. He lost 10 kilograms because of this problem in his health. Mushfig noted that he was allotted to receive nine months of treatment.”

J.Huseynov noted that M.Huseynov wants human rights defenders, especially Elchin Behbudov, to visit him.

Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code in July, 2007 and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by the Appellate Court.
