Azerbaijan’s National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) Law and International Relations Department Chief Nemat Javadov expressed his opinion about views of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor David Kramer on the fate of foreign radio stations broadcast via local frequencies in Azerbaijan.
According to Javadov, TV and Radio broadcasters in whose regulations capital Azerbaijani citizens hold share can carry out broadcasting. “This is the same in Russia, in Sweden, in Norway and in his own country (Kramer’s country). If they have broadcasting plans, they can broadcast via cable broadcasting. Although their broadcasting continues right now, this is against law,” said Javadov.
Javadov noted that the yearly term of licenses given to the foreign radio stations BBC, Voice of America and Radio Liberty by the NTRC ended in September.
Yesterday, 19 November, Kramer expressed his opinion on the issue of foreign radio stations during a press conference he conducted on the results of his official visit to Azerbaijan. “After our meeting with Azerbaijani leadership my impression is that the broadcasting of foreign radio stations will not cease,” said Kramer.
