THERE ARE NO INDEPENDENT AND OPPOSITION PROVINCIAL NEWSPAPERS IN NAKHCHIVAN

Although nine newspapers are published in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, none of them are independent or opposition-oriented publications.

These newspapers are: Supreme Assembly organ “Sharg Gapisi”, Nakhchivan City Executive Power organ “Nuh yurdu”, Shahbuz region Executive Power organ “Oguz sesi”, Sharur region Executive Power organ “Sharurun sesi”, Sadarak region Executive Power organ “Oguz yurdu”, Kangarli region Executive Power organ “Yeni Hayat”, Babak region Executive Power organ “Oguz sesi”, Julfa region Executive Power organ “Arazin sesi”, and Ordubad region Executive Power organ “El hayati”.

“Sharg gapisi” is the largest circulated newspaper among these. This newspaper is published five times a week with 3430 copies. “Sharurun sesi” is published once a week with 800 copies. The other newspapers are published once a week with 500 copies. The newspapers are usually sold to government offices and organizations on mandatory basis.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety regional correspondents received this statistical information from “Ajami” printing house, which is engaged in newspaper printing in the region.

There are no independent and opposition newspapers in the region. Because of the lack of independent district newspapers, there appears to be no competition among local press organs.
