OLD FINES REGARDING “YENI MUSAVAT” NEWSPAPER ON AGENDA AGAIN

Old court decisions regarding Yeni Musavat newspaper will be reconsidered. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety (IRFS) was told this by Yeni Musavat Newspaper Editor-in-chief Rauf Arifoglu.

According to Rauf Arifoglu, debts of Mass Media, especially fines of Yeni Musavat and Azadlig newspapers were frozen at the request of President Ilham Aliyev in 2008.

Editor-in-chief Rauf Arifoglu said that they received calls and letters from the Monitoring Office for Execution of Court Decisions after critical articles regarding Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev were published in the newspaper.

“When we reminded them of the president’s request, they told us that although several lawsuits against our newspaper were rescinded, the fines for people whose lawsuits are in force should be paid,” said Arifoglu. The editor-in-chief added that they will take measures if this issue is not solved.
