Opposition Party Activist Sentenced to Administrative Arrest for Participating in Demonstration

The activists of Shaki branch of the opposition Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) held a rally by visiting the Martyrs’ Avenue on May 28, on the occasion of the Republic Day. The police interfered with the march and youth activist Samir Hasanov was detained by the police, APFP told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS).

Samir Hasanov was sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest under Article 296 (minor hooliganism) of the Code of Administrative Offences.

His hearing in Shaki Regional Court was held behind closed doors and none of the party representatives was given access to courtroom.
