Yesterday, 23 September, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Famil Nasibov, a preliminary hearing was conducted on the lawsuit of “Yeni Musavat” against ANS Company. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper lawyer Vagif Huseyn.
According to Vagif Huseyn, the representatives of the opposite side filed a motion to consider the lawsuit of “Yeni Musavat” newspaper against ANS Company in the Economy Court.
“We objected to this motion and said that there is no economic problem between parties,” said V.Huseyn. “Abusive expressions about our newspaper were used on the TV channel and placed on its site. These expressions were damaging to our business authority. All of these can not be the reason to consider the case in the Economy Court.
The judge scheduled the next hearing on this case for 29 September at 2:00 p.m.
ANS TV appealed to court because of an article published on 27 August in “Yeni Musavat” newspaper stating that ANS TV channel advertises vodka. “Yeni Musavat” newspaper published a refutation, but filed a lawsuit in the Sabail District Court claiming that ANS TV used offensive language against the newspaper in its information that was disseminated in connection with the article. In the lawsuit ANS TV is asked to pay 100 000 (hundred thousand) AZN.
