PRESS COUNCIL REVEALS INITIAL MONITORING RESULTS

Today, 13 March, Press Council Monitoring Group unveiled its initial reports on “Professional Ethics, Adherence to Norms and Laws in Press” monitoring which is being financed by the US Embassy to Azerbaijan.

During the press conference, Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said that 2,545 professional ethics violations were identified within a month. According to Amashov, although violations were symbolized by 50 codes, the violations have been mostly registered around 13 codes like using information from other sources without a citation, using other authors’ writings under their own names, and lack of balance and/or objectivity.
Amashov noted that the monitoring will go on until 1 February 2010 and it covers 57 press published periodically and three internet sites.
