On June 11, fifteen officers from Baku City Police Office came to the office of Qanun publishing house and said that they had received an anonymous phone call to 1-0-2 hotline that a bomb had been put in the building where the publishing company was located, reported the director of the publishing company Shahbaz Khuduoglu. According to him, the police seized the security guard’s phone and the key to the entrance door.

As Shahbaz Khuduoglu was not in the city, the policemen waited for him to come and did nothing to neutralize the bomb, as they did not have a search warrant and Shahbaz Khuduoglu’s representative did not let the law enforcement officers in.

The people, who gathered in front of the building, were moved away by the police, who set up a post in front of Qanun Publishing House.

On June 12, the Publishing House’s office was taped off and police forces were deployed in the area. Qanun director Shahbaz Khuduoglu said that although the office was surrounded, no one had entered it yet. “We do nothing but produce books. It smells like some malicious intent. We know that sometimes the police can find drugs in the pocket of a person, who does not even smoke a cigarette. For now, the police surround the building and do not allow strangers to enter. Perhaps, they are waiting for further instructions,” Shahbaz Khuduoglu said.

Recall that the publishing company underwent a tax inspection in 2013, after which it was fined 150,000 AZN.
