RAMIZ MEHDIYEV’S OPINION ABOUT 90 JOURNALISTS BEING IN PRISON IN BRITAIN STIRS OBJECTIONS

“Press Freedom is one of the key principles of democracy,” said Minister on European Issues of Great Britain Jim Murphy, expressing his opinion about Head of Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev’s statement that “90 journalists are currently in prison in Great Britain.”

J. Murphy finds R. Mehdiyev’s statement groundless, “I can proudly say that there’s no imprisoned journalist in our country. There won’t be any tomorrow, either.”

“Reporters Without Borders” responded also responded to Ramiz Mehdiyev’s statement on 7 May in which the government official called the organization’s reports groundless. The organization considers Mehdiyev’s speech unacceptable. “The reports of the organizations are based on facts. The three imprisoned journalists are in prison because they criticized the government,” states “Reporters Without Borders”.
