REPORTER OF IRANIAN TELEVISION DETAINED ON DRUG CHARGES

Iran’s Sahar TV’s correspondent to Azerbaijan, Anar Bayramli, was detained on February 17th, his brother Eldar Bayramli reported to Institute for Reporter’s Freedom and Safety (IRFS) today (on February 20th).

Eldar Bayramli says that 5 police employees visited his home in the evening of February 17, and, without presenting any documents, took Anar to the Binagady District Police Department. His family members contacted the Police Office and they were told that 0.0387 grams of heroin was found on Bayramli.
Anar Bayramli’s lawyer, Anar Gasimov, told IRFS that he has met the Binagady district Police Office investigator Emin Mukhtarov.“ The journalist is charged under Article  234.1 (illegal possession of  drugs). I have not yet met Anar Bayramli. He is detained in Kurdakhani investigative prison. I am going to meet him tomorrow,” said the lawyer.
We would like to note that, the driver for the Iranian television station’s Azerbaijan office, Ramil Dadashov, was detained on the same day in Sumgait.
According to the deyerler.org website, the reasons for the arrests have not been provided. Representatives of the Iranian TV station voiced their surprise at the arrests and said they have no information.
