Imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper satiric/journalist Sakit Zahidov was visited by his spouse Rena Zahidova yesterday, 4 March. R. Zahidova told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
Noting that Sakit does not have any complaints about prison conditions, R. Zahidova said that the journalist is suffering from chest pain. According to Zahidova, S. Zahidov does not believe he will be pardoned and hopes that PACE will appoint a rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
Sakit Zahidov was arrested on 23 June 2006 for possession of narcotics (this charge is widely understood to be spurious) and was sentenced to three year imprisonment by the Grave Crimes Court.
