Sevda Vahabova, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism of the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), has ordered to give a reprimand to 14 students who did not attend the meeting of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

A photo copy of the order signed by Sevda Vahabova has been disseminated on social networks. The order includes the names of 14 third year students, who were reprimanded for not participating in the YAP meeting held on 26.04.2016.

The issuance of reprimands to the AUL students for their absence from the YAP meeting sparked an outcry from the students of AUL and all other universities alike.

Commenting on the issue, AUL press service head Shafagat Kazimova said neither the university rector, nor the Board was aware of the dean’s order. “Today, there will be a meeting about it. Appropriate measures will be taken against the faculty dean Sevda Vahabova. In our university, no one is forced to become a member of YAP. Even if someone is member, we do not make them to attend a meeting. Therefore, it is inadmissible to reprimand those students,” Kazimova said.
