Today (3 June) a hearing was held in the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of Judge Muzzafar Agazadeh on the cassation complaint of “Gundalik Azerbayjan” and “Realny Azerbayjan” newspapers’ editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev.
The court upheld the decision of the Appellate Court. The journalist’s mother Gulshan Fatullayeva told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
Recall that “Gundelik Azerbaijan” and “Realniy Azerbaijan” newspapers’ editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment by Grave Crimes Court Judge Mehdi Asadov on 30 October 2007. Fatullayev was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code.
On 16 January 2008 the Appellate Court upheld the Grave Crimes Court’s decision during the hearing on the journalist’s appeal complaint.
