In March 2005, Monitor magazine editor-in-chief Elmar Huseynov was murdered in a well-organized attack that appeared to be a contract-style killing. After receiving a number of death threats, he was gunned down in the stairwell of his apartment building in Baku, where he died on the scene.
While on his way home in the late evening of November 19, 2011 journalist and writer Rafiq Taqi was attacked by a group of men in a nearby car-park and stabbed repeatedly with a knife. Taqi was taken to hospital but died a few days later on November 23 as the result of his injuries.
The Azerbaijani authorities have failed to adequately investigate those case and no one has been brought to justice for these barbaric attacks.

What is the International Day to End Impunity?
The International Day to End Impunity takes place on 23 November. It is a day dedicated to a call to action to demand justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to freedom of expression, and to shed light on the issue of impunity.
Why was 23 November chosen as the International Day to End Impunity?
This day marks the anniversary of the 2009 Maguindanao, Ampatuan massacre, when 58 people – including 32 journalists and media workers – were murdered in the Philippines. To date, none of the perpetrators have been brought to justice.
