TEZADLAR NEWSPAPER EDIOR-IN-CHIEF FILES APPEAL

Today, 31 March, in the Nasimi District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Ikram Shirinov, a hearing was held on the lawsuit of Tezadlar newspaper editor-in-chief Asif Merzili against Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov.

Tezadlar newspaper editor-in-chief Asif Merizli, and defense representative Shamsaddin Aliyev took part in the hearing.
Judge I.Shirinov announced the decision adopted on the plaintiff’s motion to send the case to the Local Economic Court to be considered on the essence. The motion was not fulfilled.

A.Merzili told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that today, (31 March), he submitted to court an appeal against the decision, and therefore the consideration was discontinued.

On September 16, 2009, PC included Tezadlar newspaper on the list of “racketeering” publications after an article regarding the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border was published in the newspaper on 29 August, 2009. The newspaper’s editor-in-chief A.Merizli considered it unfounded and appealed to court.
