at PACE autumn session in Strasbourg, 8 October 2018

Shrinking space for Civil Society
and Persecution of Human Rights Activists

On Monday, October 8th, 13:00 to 14:00, Room 10 in Palais de l’Europe, the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety invites you to a side event, sponsored by Ms. Olena Sotnyk, (Ukraine, ALDE), Rapporteur on the restrictions of the NGO activities (PACE, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee), with support of INGO Conference of the Council of Europe.

This side event will focus on the last developments in already very known cases of persecution of human rights defenders and journalists in the Council of Europe member states (Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Poland and Hungary).

The side event will discuss the cases of Afgan MUKHTARLI, Mehman HUSEYNOV, Intigam ALIYEV, Lyudmyla KOZLOVSKA, Oleg SENTSOV, Oyub TITIEV and Yuri DMITRIEV.

Protection of human rights accomplished by these prominent human rights defenders required an enabling environment for all NGOs which today is no longer existing in all Council of Europe member states.
