The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) has issued a statement urging UNESCO to dismiss Mehriban Aliyeva from her post as goodwill ambassador. “Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife, the country’s first lady Mehriban Aliyev are considered one of the power circles. In Azerbaijan, journalists like Khadija Ismayil are jailed, some are even murdered,” said the ECPMF statement.
