YOUTH ACTIVIST BAKHTIYAR HAJIYEV’S SENTENCE POSTPONED

Today, Ganja District Court postponed the trial on the criminal case against youth activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who is charged with evading military service.

Judge Emin Akhundov did not fix a date for the next hearing, the activist’s brother Vugar Hajiyev told IRFS.

BACKGROUND

The criminal case against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was launched at the end of January 2011. At that time, he signed a statement of commitment not to leave Ganja city. At the end of February his pre-trial detention was replaced with release under police bail.

On March 4, 2011, Hajiyev was sentenced to one-month pre-trial detention. It is widely thought that Hajiyev was arrested for his activity on social networking sites and his support of the March 11 Great People’s Day campaign.
