"Reporters without Borders" has unveiled its annual report about the situation of speech freedom in world countries in 2007.
In the report Azerbaijan Reporters without Borders writes, “The country is rich in oil and natural gas but poverty is also severe, as petrodollars feed a black market and massive corruption. Exposing this can be dangerous and independent and opposition media are under constant pressure from the regime.”
The organization states in the report that although some journalists were freed through a presidential decree at the end of December, the press can't function freely in general.
