Today, 6 August, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Faig Gasimov, a hearing was held on the appeal of “Hadaf” Youth Coalition Head Agasif Shakiroglu (Ibrahimoglu) against one month pre-trial decision adopted in the Narimanov District Court on 3 August.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told about the closed hearing by A.Shakiroglu’s lawyer Bahruz Guliyev. Judge Faig Gasimov issued a decision to annul the pre-trial decision of the Narimanov District Court and to release Shakiroglu, according to B.Guliyev.
In the Narimanov District Prosecutor’s Office a criminal case was opened against Agasif Shakiroglu under article 321.1 of the Criminal Code (evasion from military call to avoid military service without evidence). However, A.Shakiroglu claims that his arrest is politically motivated due to his socio-political activity and his critical statements published in the press.
