Member of the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) Razi Alyshov was detained in the western city of Ganja on May 28.
According to the PPFA, he was detained by officers of the Nizami district police department.
“Family members were told that Alyshov was detained due to a drug investigation. On May 29, Alyshov’s apartment was searched with video footage. The activist’s mother was forced to sign some paper and was not allowed to take her glasses to read what was written,” said the PPFA.
Alyshov has been detained for 48 hours which will expire at 9 p.m. Monday.
If he is charged, Alyshov will appear in court for a measure of restraint.
The PPFA believes that the activist is being prosecuted for political activity.
It was impossible to get a comment from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
