APPEAL AGAINST “AYAN” NEWSPAPER NOT FULFILLED

Today, 2 December, in the Baku Appeals Court, under the chairmanship of judge Jamal Ramazanov, a hearing was held on the appeal from the Nasimi District Court’s verdict that was adopted on the lawsuit of Masalli region “Vilash” water depot Director Agabey Agayev against Ayan newspaper.

The plaintiff’s representative Ilham Ahmadov, defendants “Ayan” Newspaper Founder and Editor-in-chief Javid Alasgaroglu, and his representative, Media Rights Institute employee Elchin Sadigov participated in the hearing.
Elchin Sadigov said that the article titled “1000 people are in danger” was not written about Agabey Agabeyov himself, but about his work activity.
E.Sadigov said that lawsuit regarding degrading honor and dignity was unfounded. He requested that the appeal should not be fulfilled.
The judge issued a decision not to fulfill the lawsuit.
Agabey Agayev, the Director of “Vilash” water depot in Masalli region named after Heydar Aliyev, filed a civil lawsuit against Ayan newspaper for the article “1000 people are in danger,” and demanded that the newspaper pay 50,000 AZN in fines and publish a refutation. However, the lawsuit was considered unfounded and was not fulfilled according to the Nasimi District Court’s decision on 9 October. The plaintiff appealed the decision.
“Ayan” newspaper began its activity on November 2008 and is published once a week. The newspaper ceased its work several times due to financial difficulties.
