Appeal Court dismisses appeal in Rafig Tagi murder case

Baku Appeal Court dismissed the appeal against the decision of the Nasimi District Court on the suspension of investigation into the murder of late journalist Rafig Tagi – lawyer of the journalist, Elchin Sadigov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety today (May 15).

The lawyer said though they presented serious arguments confirming that the suspension of investigation was baseless and unacceptable, Baku Appeal Court rejected the complaint and upheld Nasimi District Court’s decision.

Elchin Sadigov further added that the decision will be appealed to the European Court.

Note that Rafig Tagi was stabbed by unknown assailants in Baku on November 19, 2011 and died after 4 days treatment. The Serious Crimes Investigation Department suspended the criminal proceedings on the case on January 8, 2014.
