The appeal of Yeni Zaman (New Era) party that was sent to the European Court of Human Rights has been accepted for consideration.
Today, 14 April, the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by the party’s head Musa Agayev. He said that he appealed to courts because the Justice Ministry did not register the party. However, Azerbaijani courts did not fulfill his lawsuits.
The party, which was established by “Novoye Vremya” newspaper’s (Russian language newspaper published in Azerbaijan) founder Musa Agayev, appealed to the Justice Ministry in 2007 to be registered. However, the Ministry failed to register the party and therefore the party appealed to court. The Yasamal District Court failed to fulfill the lawsuit on 3 June 2009. The Appellate Court ruled that the appeal was unfounded and did not fulfill it on 10 September 2009. Supreme Court upheld the decision issued by the Appellate Court on 18 December, 2009. M.Agayev appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.
