Today, the Baku Appeals Court heard the appeal of Yeni Fikir Youth Movement Chairman Ruslan Bashirli for an early release.
Judge Jamal Ramazanov presided over the hearing. The appeal was denied, Bashirli’s lawyer Tahir Khanaliyev told Objective TV.
The lawyer reported that the judge ruled to uphold the original ruling, but that they will be taking the case to the Supreme Court.
The court of first instance heard Bashirli`s early release appeal in prison#1 on August 22, 2011, where the appeal was denied.
BACKGROUND
The Chairman of Yeni Fikir Youth Movement Ruslan Bashirli was arrested during the run up to the May 2005 parliamentary elections. The Grave Crimes Court sentenced him to 7 years in jail on July 12, 2006. He was slandered and arrested for his activity during a meeting of the Azadlig “freedom” election coalition made up of the Musavat, APFP, and ADP parties during the 2005 parliamentary elections.
