AZERBAIJAN ON “CONSOLIDATED AUTHORITARIAN REGIMES” LIST IN FREEDOM HOUSE’S REPORT

Yesterday, 30 June, Freedom House unveiled the results of a study conducted in 29 countries in Europe and Eurasia including Azerbaijan. According to the report, democracy declined in 18 out of 29 countries. Overall 8 countries have been listed as “consolidated authoritarian regimes.” Azerbaijan has also been included in the list and the situation here worsened more than in other countries.

“Kyrgyzstan and Russia became consolidated authoritarian regimes for the first time since the study's inception in 1995, joining six other former Soviet republics: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan,” it is said in the report.
