“AZERBAYJAN” NEWSPAPER CHIEF EDITOR WANTS SUPERVISION OF TV CHANNELS STRENGTHENED

April 26th, 2008
“TV channels have already begun to, on a massive scale, do imitation in place of show programs.”

This was stated by “Azerbayjan” Newspaper Chief Editor, parliamentarian Bextiyar Sadigov in an interview to “Sharg” Newspaper. “We must resolutely prevent this,” added Sadigov, noting that the ignorant show programs target the people of Azerbaijan, particularly minors and young adults. For this reason he believes that the TV channels in Azerbaijan cannot operate completely independently.
“While there is press and expression freedom in the country, and channels operate freely, programs must be edited because they are directed towards society and there must be state supervision over the stations,” said Sadigov. He believes that the National TV and Radio Council should stop programs the damage national values and can corrupt the youth.
