“Bizim Yol” Newspaper correspondent Natig Gulehahmedoglu has filed complaints in the Yasamal and Nasimi District Courts against Baku State University Director Abel Maharramov and State Student Admissions Committee Chairperson Malayka Abbaszade due to their failure to respond to information requests.
Ahmedoglu told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that on 30 November 2007 he sent information requests to Maharramov and Abbaszade inquiring about how Azerbaijani pop singer Roya Najafova (Roya Aykhan) was admitted to Baku State University, however these went unanswered.
In Ahmedoglu’s lawsuit, which was prepared by the Media Rights Institute, the journalist is seeking comprehensive and truthful responses to his information requests, and for Maharramov and Abbaszade to both be held legally responsible for their failure to respond to an information request as is dictated in article 265.1 of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Civil Code.
