With funds provided by the European Commission, Institute for Reporters’ Freedom of Safety
continues to embrace civil journalism throughout Azerbaijan.
On August 27th the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) held a training course
on Communication Strategies and Technical Skills for human rights activists and civil society
representatives in Lankaran. Two Lenkoran-based youth activists Sabina Akhundova and Ilkin
Muradov facilitated the training. Akhundova and Muradov, along with six regional citizen journalists,
have been empowered by IRFS in skills sharing.
During the first session, which was run by master trainer Sabina Akhundova, participants learned
about the important roles of media and civil journalism in the life of civil society stakeholders, the
application of journalistic skills in the context of NGO, and the possibilities created by the Internet.
The second session discussed social networks as a tool for promotion of media content. Master
trainer Ilkin Muradov shared his ‘how to’ on the production and distribution of multimedia contents
and news using special portals and social networking websites.
During the last session, the participants explored legal and ethical guidelines for online journalists.
At the end of the training the participants were awarded with certificates.
The training was held in the Lankaran office of the Regional Media Center.
